Is it just me???

While out shopping in New Liskeard Friday, well, not just Friday actually, every time, I couldn't help but notice how rude people are.  Everyone seems to be so self centered lately and lack manners.  How hard is it to say "Excuse Me," when passing someone and they are in your way?  Or, "Oops, Im sorry," after you have bumped into someone by accident.  My mother was walking with her cart when out of nowhere, this man comes barreling through and hits her cart with his cart, thus bumping her a little.  My mom says, "Oh I'm sorry," when it wasn't even her fault.  Can you guess what the man said?  Nothing.  Absolutely nothing.  He was the one at fault, he walked into her and she is the one apologizing.  Something is wrong there.

One day a while back, I was watching an episode of Dr. Phil.  One of the things they talked about was the fact that people lack empathy for others.  People just don't put themselves in the other person's shoes anymore. People lack the ability to understand another person's feelings or their situation or their motives.  Most people are out to get what they can for themselves and they don't care who they crush along the way.

So, what can we do about this as a society?  Here is what I think. We need to start considering other people. Hold the door open for someone.  Carry something heavy for someone if you see them struggling.  Don't stare  at that mother who is trying her hardest to keep her child under control and she is on her last nerve.  Be courteous and polite.  Smile at a stranger.  Do something for someone without expecting something in return.  Just like the movie, Pay It Forward!  Remember that people have come from all walks of lives. Rich, poor, healthy, sick, or even happy.  Put yourself in their position. Imagine what its like to be them. And for goodness sake, if you do something to them, like bump them with your shopping cart, say "SORRY!"
